We Are The World Today is a group of concerned human beings that desire to contribute to change. We are inspired by the We Are The World movement started in 1985 and desire to build upon this following and inspiration.

Social Networking is without a doubt the most effective way to join together and contribute to change. You tell your friends, they tell their friends and so on…. Some will want to address problems and bring them to the forefront for discussion, while others will want to focus on solutions and recommendations. Blog, comment, write a poem, write an article, sing a song, lip sync, express yourself and tell the world you care. All User Contributed Content will be entered into a Contest. The most inspiring contributions will be acknowledged and winners will be invited to participate in the creation of a We Are The World Today production. The We Are The World Today production will be totally produced and engineered in our virtual studio. Engineers, producers, musicians, vocal couches and song writers have generously donated their time to assist you. You will be responsible for delivering your content to us in a format and specifications as specified. The production will be promoted worldwide and available for digital download with accompanying ring tones. A portion of the profits will be donated to various non-profit organizations influenced by our Community’s input.

On January 28th, 1985 a group of talented musicians got together to perform “We Are the World” a song written by music superstars Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, in order to support famine relief for the devastated country of Ethiopia. The song would go on to raise $60,000,000 towards the relief fund, as well as becoming Billboard’s number 1 song of the year in sales for 1985, selling over 800,000 copies alone in its first weekend. The single spent four weeks at the top position in the Billboard Hot 100 in April of 1985. Around the world, the song would go on to be number 1 in the UK and make top 10 lists all around the world. It would win a Grammy for best song of the year and record of the year. The song has been parodied by television shows like The Simpsons, Married With Children, Saturday Night Live, and My Name is Earl.
